Efficient individual mobility is a key factor for preserving economic power and protecting the environment. In Germany alone traffic jams cause macroeconomic costs of more than 17 billion Euro each year. Preventing traffic jams can save numerous litres of fuel and avoid emissions. 

In today’s systems traffic efficiency is based on collective traffic management with mostly stationary data acquisition. Data is then transmitted to traffic control centres for evaluation. Traffic guidance systems, such as variable traffic signs as well as brodcasting and other information services, can influence traffic accordingly.

Car-to-x communication individualises traffic monitoring and traffic control by utilizing individual vehicles for data acquisition. At the same time providing individual information and suggesting routes for each vehicle – based on its destination and the specific traffic situation.
